Wind turbines are a technology whose time has come. Prominent scientists have warned us that we must reduce our use of fossil fuels or risk disastrous climate change. Already we are seeing more hurricanes and they are more powerful hurricanes. Drought and huge forest fires are changing forever many parts of the USA and other countries. Flooding and severe storms are becoming more and more an everyday expectation.
Wind power generators can produce a large part of the power we consume. Presently wind generation accounts for only a little more than 1% of the power generated in the USA. This is gradually changing however as more and more wind tuerbines come on line. The question is will this slow change be enough and I fear that the answer is no it will not. We need to do more and to do it quickly if we are to avert disaster.
Small wind turbines installed on private propert can play a big part in this change. More and more people recognise this and are installing wind power generators to produce part or even all of the power they need.
